For the past several months kagi assistant has gotten slower and slower. When i type !chat and press enter, it can take up to 10 seconds just to get to a chat screen, and then when i type the prompt, it can take up to 2 minutes to get a response, but it never completes in less than 30 seconds. While the loading is happening, the mouse disappears in the window and firefox will bring up the "This page is slowing down firefox" warning.
This issue happens in all browsers, including brave (125.1.66.115
) and ff (138.0.3) on linux ( Ubuntu 25.10, 6.17.0-6) and firefox on android (145.0.2).
The issue happens regardless of prompt, "This is a test" is just as slow as a complex query asking for coding help.
The issue happens regardless of model, default is just as bad as claude or gemini. "Quick" seems to be slightly faster but the page is slow to a crawl to get to the actual LLm response part, it seems like just getting to the part when the model name is displayed and a response pane is there is taking 90% of the time.
I've also tried disabling internet access based on other threads but even that doesn't seem to have any effect, "!chat this is a test" still takes 40 seconds on firefox, 30 seconds on firefox android.
I've tried removing my default prompt which was 1000chars but still i get a frozen crawl on page load.
I use other AIs for work like claude and there is not even close to the same lag. The chat page opens instantly with no freezing and responses are quick.
