When I search for a place within the area I live in, they’re very frequently assigned to the broader city metropolitan area rather than the specific suburb they’re located within. The place may be several or tens of suburbs/localities and many kilometres across from the major city.
I think this may be an issue with the underlying OSM data source.
I randomly clicked on a small suburban airfield but it’s assigned to the broader city metropolitan area. It’s not the main or even secondary airport for the city. Conversely, a small cinema some distance away is assigned to the correct locality.
The issue becomes obvious when street names are reused across localities. For example, there may be 1 Main Street, Big City. There may also be 1 Main Street, Small Town that’s 100km away from the former place. But Kagi Maps shows the address as being “1 Main Street, Big City” even though the map marker for the latter is correct. If I only looked at the address and drove there without directions as I’m familiar with the route, I’ll end up at the wrong place.
The locality or suburb is correctly assigned. I search for any place anywhere and I’m at least shown the correct address (I understand other data such as phone, email, business hours, etc may be more difficult to obtain or maintain).
