Google Scholar Results/authors/citations for scientific papers

For Academic Papers, I propose that Kagi should offer details on authorship, citations, journal of publication. Example from Google search for:

Understanding deep learning requires rethinking generalization

A satisfactory alternative would be to have a direct link to the Google Scholar results in the search results.

I'll second this. Having built-in capabilities for gleaning bibliographic details could also open the way later for even more powerful capabilities for locating papers, especially when used with Lenses.

Vlad At least for more technical papers, arXiv might not be a bad choice.

But my impression from their website is that Kagi, as a commercial entity, might have to work out an MoU or even potentially pay for API access.

JSTOR would also seem a logical choice, but it's not at all clear to me if they offer something suitable for use by a search engine.

It would be great if Kagi had a lens for research papers so it behaved more in those cases like Google Scholar or Semantic Scholar. It would enable people to search for academic papers only without having to look through blogs and the like as well.

Not all PDFs are research articles. Some PDFs may be lecture notes or presentations, or not related to any academic material.
Research articles may not have publicly accessible PDFs, many do not, especially when behind paywalls.

Vlad There are thousands of journals and probably hundreds of publishers. I’m not sure a list would be sufficient or at the very least feasible. Just the open access journals are more than 18k: https://doaj.org/

No idea if a public list for paywalled ones exist though. These are probably more common though.

When doing a search for scientific literature, Google displays additional information like the first author’s name, the year of publication and number of citations. To distinguish results, the name and the publication are important.

Google somehow has the relevant data even when the result is a journal website. If Kagi would implement something similar, one could focus on results from important databases (e.g. Pubmed, arXiv) and publishers/journals (e.g. link.springer.com, sciencedirect.com, nature.com, sciencemag.org) first.

I’d like to use this topic to draw attention to OpenAlex (“An open and comprehensive catalog of scholarly papers, authors, institutions, and more.”). It's freely licensed, has an API and offers this massive catalogue that could be used to enrich search results regarding scientifc papers on Kagi.
