kirkmc I understand, that's why I'm asking for it to be an optional setting. But this depends on the context. If you're a writer, yes, you should use them, and it would be dumb of people to accuse you of AI writing because of that. But in some places, for example in a job application, it is totally acceptable to use a regular dash and even a slight possibility of your text being perceived as AI generated could ruin your application. It's very unfortunate that this is how it is now, but I'd rather "give in" to this than get rejected over this. I've never used em-dashes outside of very specific contexts even before AI, so it wouldn't be a loss for me either way - in fact, it just makes the text seem closer to my natural writing, which is a benefit.
