I’d like to propose a feature enhancement for the news feed experience: a breaking news override mechanism that activates when a significant number of reputable sources report the same breaking story with urgency.
Currently, the feed can miss or delay coverage of fast-moving events that have immediate national or global impact. Although rare, not all news is slow news; some stories (e.g., major political developments, natural disasters, security threats) require rapid visibility.
Trigger Condition: If a threshold number of fact based trusted sources (e.g., AP, Reuters, BBC) simultaneously report a story and reach consensus this is breaking or urgent.
Effect: Temporarily override the default ranking to surface the story prominently, possibly with a visual indicator (e.g., “Breaking” tag).
Optional Controls: Users could opt in/out or adjust sensitivity to breaking news overrides.
