Add option to disable the Quick Answer hint

Kagi now shows an extra "Quick Answer for ..." hint when typing in the search field:

I use Quick Answer a lot by appending "?" at the end of search phrase. However, these kind of explicit hints clutter the UI and, to me, feel like a step towards enshitification and forcing features on users. I want to be able to disable this "Quick Answer for..." hint without having to disable the hint system altogether (which seems to be the only way of getting rid of this hint, at the expense of loosing all search hint functionality).

Provide a toggle under Search Settings that allows to disable Quick Answer hint.

I think I managed to work around the problem by creating a custom uBlock Origin filter:

kagi.com##.qa.auto_item

Still, this should be an option and not something that has to be fixed using adblockers.

jstolarek by the way, you can do that in Kagi settings using custom CSS, that way it will sync across all devices and work without any extensions

While QA appears when users ask for it, a prompt to use QA appears always, even when users don't want it.

Hiya, you can go on https://kagi.com/settings/ai and disable "Auto Quick Answer" and that should turn this off!

z64 No, you failed to understand the problem here. Disabling "Auto Quick Answer" turns off Quick Answer mechanism entirely, which is not what this ticket is about. It certainly should not be closed as "Done".

Do you expect this setting to also remove the hint for the explicit trigger, so that none of these are shown?

Or do you only want to disable the interrogative suggestions?

I want to be able to remove just the Quick Answer hint, without disabling Quick Answer. See first post.

jstolarek Understand, just clarifying that there are actually two types of suggestions and making sure that you want both of them disabled

There is one suggestion shown when your query ends with ?, in the first position
There is another type shown when your query starts with a question-word (How, What, ...), shown in the second position

We would add a setting to disable all of them, but wanted to double check in case the first was still useful to you.

z64 Are there two types of hints? I just tested and it seems that the behaviour has indeed changed slightly since I originally created this ticket, in that the hint in no longer prefixed with "Quick Answer for..." phrase. But aside from that it seems to me the hint system works the same.

What I'm seeing is that a hint appears as soon as there are three words in the search input box. It doesn't matter whether the words imply a question; they can be total garbage:

Perhaps internally these hints are somehow distinct, but for me, as a user, it is one and the same thing. I want to be able to disable the hints for Quick Answer, regardless how the hint is triggered: by length of the search phrase, by its contents, or by explicit question mark at the end. I know the feature exists, I know how to use it when I want to, I don't need hints for that as they clutter the interface.

@RoxyRoxyRoxy I have a quick question. This suggestion has been closed as "Done", but it doesn't seem to mean that the feature is implemented, correct? What I'm getting at is there probably should be various tags for closing an issue: Done, Wontfix, Rejected, etc.

Thanks. And just to be clear, I am not insisting that everything I propose gets implemented (though it would be nice :-) ). All I'm asking for is unambiguous status updates.
