Assistant image editing just generates a new image

I generated an image with Ki and asked for a modification. It used the Editing image tool but it ended up just generating a new image rather than modifying the original image.

I expected the model to use native image editing to modify the first generated image in place, rather than generating a new image. Generating a new image with the original prompt + the revision would've been fine too.

Could you try uploading the image again and asking the model to make the edit? Might have been a one-off issue with the image editing model (GPT Image 1 in this case)

Hm it's possible the model is simply not that good. I'm used to Nano Banana being almost perfect in terms of object permanence. I see the model keeping some things around but it's just not as consistent. In this case it wouldn't be a bug with Assistant
