When I search, I often see results in russian language, although I don't have such language in my system at all (only English and Ukrainian). I try to block some ".ru" domains to clean up my search results, but it doesn't help.

Steps to reproduce:
Search for "fov"

Expected behavior:

  1. I expect to see results in the language in which a wrote them (in English in this case)
  2. I expect to see results in the language of my region (I am from Ukraine), and there IS a Wikipedia article about the Field of View in Ukrainian, which can be displayed in the top right corner.

bro_j The region setting instructs Kagi to look for search results matching this region. Since Ukraine is both Ukrainian and Russian speaking results come in both languages. Similar problem exists in other multi language regions like Switzerland and Netherlands.

Note that trillion dollar search engines (Google) have the same problem and it is not an easy one to solve. (I remember reading an artticle about it here https://mezha.media/en/2022/08/08/ukrainian-google-search-should-really-become-ukrainian/ )

We can in the future have a language selection option which will filter out results that are not in desired language.

Vlad Is this a related issue? I sometimes get Russian or other foreign language results for sites that have multilingual versions. Weirdly, in my case, the region is set to Canada and the URL of the result is localized to Canada as well: https://www.flyporter.com/en-ca/

hmnd Yeah it is related. The trouble with site language is that it is not deterministic, and the webiste itself may chose to serve a title in different lanaguge for example, for the same URL, based on where it thinks the crawler is coming from.

        Hey Kagi,
would you be so kind as to respect your customers in return for their money?

it's not 'a political question' it's a mere respect to your clients.

Are you also showing German wiki results for Italian customers?

        (see your negligence in attachment)

p.s. Ukrainian users do not want to see ᵣussian results in their searches!
