Currently, Kagi News has a global language setting that translates all articles or none. This creates a dilemma for multilingual readers who prefer to read articles in their original language but occasionally need help with unfamiliar words or phrases. The proposed feature adds a per-article translation toggle that appears only when viewing articles in non-native languages. This allows users to keep their global language setting on "original language" while still accessing translation help for specific articles when needed. It preserves the immersive reading experience while removing the barrier of unknown vocabulary.
Add a discreet "Translate this article" button or icon (🌐) that appears in the article header when the detected language differs from the user's browser/system language. Clicking it should:
- Translate the article content in-place
- Offer a "Show original" toggle to switch back and forth
- Remember the translation choice only for the current article.
