Browser Extension Not Working with Vivaldi

The extension does not successfully change the default search engines to Kagi in the Vivaldi browser, and it is not possible to do manually (in the entry that the extension added) either.

I have determined the likely cause to be the @ character in the "nickname" field, which the extension seems to try adding by default. Vivaldi does not allow @ in that field, so my guess is that that is what is causing the extension to not work properly.

The workaround is of course to add a completely manual entry, which doesn't really help with usage in private browsing.

Can you clarify what you mean by the @ in the nickname? Not familiar with Vivaldi. In the meantime you can use your session link to use Kagi in private mode. This can be found in the sidebar when you open the hamburger menu in Kagi.

This is the field I was referring to. The "@" seems to be what's causing it. When you try to add the same nickname in a field manually, it says that "@" can't be used. Thanks.

Hi there,

On Vivaldi, you need to explicitly grant extensions permission to control search.

You can do so by enabling this option:

Settings > Search > Search Options > Search in Address Field > Allow Control by Extensions

Can you confirm this setting is enabled?

nicole5978 Hi, I can't remember if that setting was on at the time (I uninstalled the extension and undid some stuff to get rid of it), but it's working now with this toggle on. Well, the favicon isn't but that's a non-issue. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, and it seems to have just started in the last week, early November). I checked the options in the settings (listed above by Nicole5978), and they are checked.
