Stopped working as default search in Chrome

The Kagi extension seems to have broken in Chrome for me (on multiple devices, different OSes). Typing search terms into the URL bar and hitting return gives the tab a loading spinner, but nothing else happens, it never loads anything. A Kagi auth token is visible in the URL bar while this is going on.

Going to kagi.com first and then searching works fine. Where applicable, it's also fine in Firefox on the same devices. (I can't test with Firefox on ChromeOS.)

It previously worked in Chrome for me, with the extension.

I should be able to search with Kagi by typing search terms into the browser's URL bar.

I think a screen recording, with senstive contents blurred might be more helpful

Hi thanks for the report. You shouldn't be seeing a token in the address bar if you're using the extension. Can you confirm that you haven't also set up Kagi as a search engine manually in Chrome?

There's only one entry for Kagi under Search engines in Settings, which I think comes from the extension, if that's what you mean.

But when I opened Chrome on this device to verify just now, searching worked again. It's still broken on another device I have with me, so I wasn't imagining the issue, but it might be something that fixes itself after a bit. It was broken for about three days before I opened this bug report.

I'm gonna go ahead and restart the other device to see if it also works again afterwards.

Still broken on the Chromebox after a restart.

Okay, done. But that forced my default search engine back to Google.

I've tried it in a new tab, URL bar searches work again but are done using Google.

The extension is still installed.

Ok mb, would you mind reinstalling the extension then?

Okay, I've removed the extension, restarted, added the extension and enabled it to run in private tabs, then restarted again.

Searches are still happening on Google by default. A new search engine has been added as inactive.

I'm going to try making it the default search engine, which is an option in the dots menu.

Yep, now it works as expected again. So whatever bad state my Chrome profile got into, it seems removing everything and starting over does fix it, at least for now.
