Hey gang,
Thank you for your input; @RoxyRoxyRoxy is correct that we are not interested in censoring results for everyone, as this incites a race where we inevitably end up alientating large sections of our userbase - not necessarily in cases like KWF, but in a "race to the bottom" fashion you eventually wade into gray areas where it no longer is about quality or safety, but personal politics and ideologies.
There is no telling where the line will stop if people keep asking for site A, B, C, ... to be blocked - if you think about it from our perspective, we lose no matter what we do. Kagi eventually gets branded as the "censorship engine".
So that is why we empower you as individuals, and eventually we would love to build ways where whole groups of users can participate in tailored sets of results.
That said, there are "softer" actions that we will take, and have done all the time, in service of providing Safe Search:
- Sites that are verifiably spam or malicious (e.g. phishing) we mark and throw to the bottom of the page as proactively as we can
- We rely on our upstream sources implementation of Safe Search for NSFW results, however there are occasionally holes in the domains/content that they return even when we ask them not to, and we have many measures on our end to patch those over.
We discussed and agreed that KWF results should most likely not be present if Safe Search is enabled, so we will add that to our post-hoc filter.
Thank you - and please remember to be kind to your fellow users and staff on the forum, we all love Kagi and want to improve it, there is no need for it to get heated or stoop to insulting each other 🙂
