Dext I have been able to summarize every YT video I've tried so far!

dps Whoops... I didn't even try because the app ft description makes it seem like it's only capable summarizing text articles rn.

When viewing a PDF in Safari, the "Summarize with Kagi" share option is not displayed. Is this a bug or intended behavior? (The Universal Summarizer, invoked with "!sum" in front of the URL, correctly displays a summary of the PDF, as expected.)

Recast

On the Android version, whenever I open or share to the app, it immediately opens Play Store instead. I'm not sure why it does this. (Is it trying to make me pay for something or check a subscription?) This stops me from using the app at all.

Recast does this keep happening even when you force close the app (so going in the 'app info' of the app in android settings and stopping it)

It would be great if the Android version of the app could be distributed by other means like a custom F-Droid repository (handles updating for you) or a direct APK download as fallback. I don't use Google and neither have proprietary Google blobs installed on my LineageOS device by choice; neither do I want to install compatibility layers like MicroG. It is impossible right now to obtain the app legitimately on liberated Android forks. The biggest pain point I can imagine right now is PairIP, for whatever reason you are using that thing.

I use a FairPhone btw which allows/supports installing Android forks by out of the box.

There should be an explainer added somewhere that the text will be uploaded through Kagi's servers. And maybe add a link to the llm privacy page ?

I just downloaded the Summarize app. I like the idea and will probably use it in my daily life, so thanks!

Two quick first impressions:

During the first setup, I thought I was doing something wrong because I was "stuck" on the first screen. It took me a while to understand that the "See How" button stays displayed even after you complete the customization on iOS.
The "ELI5" acronym should be explained, especially for international users. I had to search to know what it stands for. It should be in the app directly (maybe a tooltip?).

Is the app going to be translated?

Love the app so far. Having a button to get the summary and source article into the Kagi App to discuss it further with Kagi Assistant would be cool. So you could ask questions regarding the summarization or source article in Assistant.

It is possible to summarize any article in the original language; for example, an Italian article is automatically translated in English (because of my account's language maybe?)

kg4maz You can select "Detect Language" in the settings sheet, however you might be right that in some case the language detection seems to be falling back to English.
Can you maybe share the URL you were trying to summarize either here or by sending to support@kagi.com?
I will file a bug report internally to investigate this.

In the android app using a Samsung S23 Ultra the font size for key points is way too large. Its the same size as the headings for summary and ELI5.

Can't see a big difference between medium length summary and ELI5 either in the couple of things I tried. It seemed to paraphrase without really simplifying or more detailed explanation of the actual context. Instead it seemed to target simplifying individual words like Britons --> people from Britain.

In the Kagi Summarize app I can set a light or dark mode, but not a mode that switches with the OS level light/dark mode.

Currently this means in the evening I’m blasted with a scorching white blast of light when summarizing an article.

Hopefully adding a “match OS theme” color option is on your backlog for this app 🙂

daniell_kagi Yes, I've tried to do that in Italian, French and English but I've always had an English summary ( because of the language setting in my Kagi settings maybe? ). I'll write to support@kagi.com.
