Ranking options (eg. pin) don't work reliably

Looks like if I pin or raise a less popular / low traffic website it will not be on top of the results. Often I do see it at top of the second result page.

Brave Search also has the ability to control my preferred ranking. Over there, most of the time, it works very good.

If it can work at Brave Search, why not with Kagi?

One good example would be search for the series Normal People.

I've pinned themoviedb.org website. I only get 2 result pages, and this series isn't on either one of them.

If I include "themoviedb" in the search terms, then it's on top of page 1.

I think what is more interesting, but I have no reproducer right now. I sometimes get random unpinned domains as the very first search result, and the actual pinned domains are starting from the second result. The exact same behavior for raised domains sometimes. In rarer cases raised or pinned domains start from the third result, while the first two are random other domains.

I will try to get a reproducer again, it happens rarely.

TL;DR

first result = unranked domain
second result onwards = pinned or raised domains

I find this problem troubling, because it clearly shows that websites don't show up in the search results, although they should.

This is an indication of that the search doesn't work reliable.

This is an ongoing issue we're working on internally via several factors, and I appreciate your patience in us working to fix this issue.

In the meantime you could try using bangs or lenses to go to a website you're wanting to find a result for, such as tmdb.
