Wrong region for brand websites

I've noticed the current "international" region is mostly united-states focussed. When searching explicitly Dutch things I often get english translations of them instead

I have my region set to US/English and constantly see results that are the wrong region. I'm not on a VPN either, US-based IP.

For example this search, "visa signature warranty extension" gives me a visa.com.tt (Trinidad and Tobago) domain as the top result. The second result is a PDF that is specifically for the Latin America and Caribbean region. After the questions widget the next few results are yet another region (Brazil). The result ranked 7th is the correct link that really should have been first. And it was ranked below NerdWallet blog posts!

I see this all the time so I will update this post as I keep seeing them. Just about anything I search for that leads to a large multinational serves me completely random region results, almost never my region.

Below is another example, although it is a little more nuanced. When searching for "uk animal agriculture alliance" from the UK (link here), the first result is the Animal Agriculture Alliance from the US. Given the close name match, though, this is somewhat excusable.

I'm not entirely sure what the region picker in search does. It doesn't limit my searches to the region's primary language or to content targeting that region, because even with my region set to Australia I still frequently get the American version of sites (e.g. PcPartPicker) or even other language content (frequently French personally). Does it just downrank those results? It seems to do so for some results e.g. pcpartpicker gives au.pcpartpicker.com as top result. But for other searches e.g. pcpartpicker ram the top result is still the American site, and the Australian site is second. I thought I could fix this via a rank adjustment, but lowering pcpartpicker.com also effects all subdomains...

I also can't find any documentation about the region picker.

I don't imagine this being an easy one to solve in the general case, but it would also be good to see duplicate content detection. For example, these two results are the same but target different regions specified via subdomain:

I don't really care at all about the American results, especially if I've set my region to Australia. I'm not sure if I want to filter those results completely, or just downrank them significantly. Up to you, I guess.
