Rather than only being able to open map links in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze, it would be very useful to be able to open the links in any installed map application using the geo: URI scheme.
See the OpenStreetMap Wiki Page for a list of the applications that support geo: links. Although they're not listed there, it's also supported by all the major proprietary map applications.
This would mostly be useful for people who use offline-first mapping applications like OsmAnd and Organic Maps. Applications like these are very useful in areas with poor cellular coverage, can provide much more customizable routing, provide much better privacy compared to using proprietary map applications, and are generally much better for biking and hiking routes. In the case of OsmAnd, it also provides a huge number of features that I've never seen in any other map application, which I find incredibly useful.
Currently, I use the Geo Share app on Android if I need to open a link in one of these applications, but that still requires connecting to Google's servers, which allows them to figure out where you're currently routing to.
