Translate shows "Sorry failed to send translation request" despite translating the page

The page translates but there is an overlay that blocks me from scrolling the page.

that's on firefox android (same problem in desktop mode)

my guess is that it is some javascript on that page that's doing some weird things.

no overlay, or at least the ability to scroll
