Currently, there seems to be no regard to what's on the screen right now or the country selected in search preferences. As an example, see this screenshot where the location is visible on screen but is not in the search results:
It seems to be pretty much impossible to find anything using the search on the map, at least in Belarus, right now.
I'd prefer if it prioritized results from my country at least, and more specifically focused on what's on the screen right now. If I'm looking at a particular city or street, I'm probably looking for something in their vicinity.
