Not possible to block TLD in personalised results

All my search results return a lot of russian results when doing image searches. To the point where the feature image search is essentially useless. I would never click a russian link. It's the opposite of quality. So, using image search in Kagi means url scanning.

This is a real deal breaker. I tried adding .ru and *.ru to the blocklist but the asterisk won't get saved and .ru won't block anything.

I expect not getting russian virus/spam/ultra low quality results.

Doing a -.ru seems to do the trick. But I switched to Kagi to avoid the need to use tricks when doing regular searches...

Any update on this? Maybe there already exists a feature I can utilise in order to make image search useful?

This really needs an update! It should at least be possible to efficiently block spammy and scammy websites by using wildcards like *.ru or *.pinterest.* like most old-fashioned blocklist Chrome extensions used to offer on Google Search.

(It seems I've reached the max 1000 of 1000 allowed filters, and that totally sucks.)

JanPieter Yeah, the Russian spam domains are simply too many, it’s not feasible.

@RoxyRoxyRoxy excuse my ignorance but this cannot be that hard to fix, and must be considered core functionality?

I do a lot of image searches, and I cannot use Kagi for this due to all the Russian spam. Those sites are not only annoying and irrelevant, they pose a major security risk - they only exist to track and hack you.

Just to add my 2 cents. Apparently a balustrade is a thing we don't have enough images of on the internet outside of Russia. Here is my search snap from today, with red showing results from .RU domains, and orange shows results from domains with other TLDs, but being Russian-owned, such as vk.com and pro-dachnikov.com

There may be more that I just couldn't identify from the first glance, but you all get the idea.

I have no idea why Russian content is so disproportionately represented in the results, but it's becoming too much trouble to deal with.

I’ve now cancelled my subscription with the hope that we will be able to disable the Yandex index and/or filter out TLDs.

It was a great product in many ways but in the end it didn’t save me any time due to the manual url checking before clicking any link due to the risk of ending up on some dodgy unrelated Russian spam site.

I’ll come back when/if this is solved.

One of the things I find frustrating about Yandex's use is that images results sometimes refer directly to Yandex's URL. Below is one example where its maps service is linked to. If Yandex continues to be used, at least exclude direct Yandex URLs from results and only include results that Yandex itself surfaces externally.

A somewhat separate request is that I want to be able to exclude .ru domains in entirety, or that they should be excluded automatically depending on my location and the context of my search. I struggle to understand how they would be relevant to me where I'm searching from (the UK). Yandex surfacing .ru results does not provide any utility for me. See the below example.

I got here after looking for a way to do the same thing - block .ru domains from my results because they're never ever useful to me. Annoying it's not possible.

Come on Kagi team! Basic domain filtering stuff like this is way more important, and more fundamental to Better Search than any fancy AI SlopStop initiative!

You can block TLDs just fine using the personalized results settings. And since Kagi hasn't announced anything, I'm assuming this was always possible.

You just need to add the TLD to the personalized results settings, and put it as blocked. Be sure to write down only the TLD, not the dot. So ru, not .ru, *.ru or anything like that.
