“curled quotes” instead of "straight quotes"

I prefer using “curled quotes” instead of "straight quotes" in my writing. In one word: proper typography. Can Kagi's spelling and grammar work with that, instead of changing everything to straight quotes?

My experience is that it does when writing longer text. But it doesn't with short text, as the attached screenshot shows.

Quality work using good typography.

This should be a bug report, not a suggestion. It seems that the current behavior of the proofreader is changing correct text to wrong text, which is the opposite of what it should do.

Well said. I guess I need to learn to distinguish between suggestions, bug reports and know how to post those.

Yep, sorry - this is indeed a bug. It's also why these changes don't show up in the corrections list, they shouldn't be there in the first place. I am working on improving proofreading and hopefully you should see improvements soon.

Several months later, I'm still getting straight quotes from Claude 4.6 even when I explicitly request curly quotes, e.g.,

You're right—I keep outputting straight characters. Let me try with the actual Unicode curly characters:

This appears to be a rendering limitation—the platform may be converting curly quote Unicode characters (U+201C, U+201D, U+2018, U+2019) to straight equivalents before they reach you. I don't have control over how the output is rendered on your end. You may need to do a find-and-replace after copying the text into a word processor to convert straight quotes and apostrophes to their curly equivalents.

whshep Hey, this thread is about Kagi Translate, if you're having issues about assistant - kindly open a different one. Claude models struggle with curly quotes, sometimes they're literally incapable of outputting them.
