Summarizer is unable to retrieve arXiv PDFs

When I try to pass a link to a PDF on arXiv to the summarizer, I get:
"The arXiv endpoint for programmatic access failed to provide PDF. Please try again later."

Get a summary of the PDF.

Does this happen for all arxiv links? Just tried with this successfully: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2502.11089

Essentially what is going on is that arxiv has an endpoint that they want programmatic access to go through. For some arxiv documents, this endpoint fails to return a PDF for whatever reason. In these cases, it is possible to use the regular endpoint as a fallback, but we want to respect their ask and keep programmatic access going through their specified endpoint. So unfortunately, nothing we can really do in these cases.

Any chance of adding a way to upload a PDF to the summarizer, to work around these kinds of problems? Alternatively (or in addition to), making a custom assistant that can summarize an uploaded document?

Yes, you can upload a file to the assistant directly and it automatically summarizes if no prompt is given 🙂

Oh, neat, I didn't realize that. Thanks. I do hope you guys create a custom assistant "store" of some kind.

If by "store" you mean being able to save files to a custom assistant to use as context, we have something like that planned.
