Wait, it will let me burn through my annual subscription without warning me? That's a serious problem. At least if it warns me or cuts me off for the current month, I can respond by changing my usage patterns.

I'm all for fair use and sustainable billing, but it must be transparent.

I respect Kagi's fair use policy, but the monthly cost associated with Ultimate would make me switch to a different AI provider if I hit the limit. I doubt that I would (not performing many advanced tasks), but as previous commenters have said, how would I know?

I've just switched from Ultimate to Professional. I previously only used Claude models but they are arguably too expensive now, even on Ultimate, especially as I like to keep a conversation thread going whilst coding which uses a lot of tokens. 'What's the entire code look like now?' is not cheap.

The fair use policy ensures a percentage of your Plan fee to go towards Search, etc. That's great for sustainably of Kagi. There will also be many Kagi users not using tokens up to the amount of their Plan fee - should they get a refund for unused token credits? Of course not. Instead of having to renew a Plan when you hit the fair use policy limit, you should be able to purchase additional token credits to top up your Plan until it renews - an Out of Plan balance. Why should you pay again for Search with a renewed Plan, if it is not Search usage that you have run out of.

I think I was asked to renew my Plan before I'd actually run out of credits, it really wasn't clear.

I was being very cautious (using cheaper models) and thought I must be eating into my credit. I've used $0.08/10.00 so this proves the value of the having the information.

@Luis I notice that switching plans resets the total AI cost this period to zero, but I don't remember seeing my period resetting to a full month after the AI cost reset and I received a full fair use allowance even though I had paid (out of credit) a pro-rata amount for a shorter period, but received the full benefit. Just wanted to mention, as pro-rata refunds and periods when switching may be a little more complicated in how they are calculated now. This may not be a problem, but whilst we're looking at fair use, thought I would check a new loop hole hasn't been created.

Given the Fair Use Policy is now enforced, it would be nice to see what the cost of my "AI Tokens" has been on the consumption page. For example, my page look like this, but I have no reference for whether this represents high, medium, or low usage:

The main problem I have is ... I just don't know how to interpret this. All I know is ... it seems I used it a lot more in March than any other month 😉

Also, I tend to flip-flop between AI models a lot ... so each AI token presumably is worth more or less depending on what model I used ... but I don't know what model that could be looking back retroactively 😅

I have the same doubt. Since we don't know the token costs or usage rates, maybe there could be a color-coded warning system (green for low, yellow for medium, red for high) or one that shows the usage percentage.

I have a question: I read on Discord that users can utilize the equivalent value of their subscription, but is this LLM usage limit based on the monthly or the annual subscription amount? For example, if someone has the $10/month professional plan, is their limit $10 per month? And for someone who subscribed to the annual plan, will they still have a $10 limit each month for 12 months, or can they use the entire $108 value (the annual total) in just a few months?

Your monthly subscription spend limit is as follows:

Professional (monthly plan): $10 per month
Professional (yearly plan): $9 per month (calculated as $108 ÷ 12)

I used the Assistant a couple of times as soon as I discovered it was enabled for my tier, and this was the first thing I wanted to figure out. I searched and couldn’t find how to do it and came here looking for answers. Thanks for making the request and please implement.
