Non-AI unlimited plan

I want to upgrade to the unlimited plan, but I haven't yet because the unlimited plan includes AI bullshit built in. I want to be very clear that not only do I dislike AI in general, but that I never want anyone to think I support it in any way. For the moment, that's the $5 tier. If there were a, for example $7 tier that's just unlimited searches, I would sign up immediately.

As for why I don't like AI: I don't want my tools to be 'more human', I want them to be as dumb as possible. I didn't like using chatbots before, why would I start now? I'm paying for a private search engine due to privacy concerns, not because I'm bullish on planet roasting support bots.

I like Kagi, I like that there's a financial incentive not to serve ads or trade my privacy away to get my searches done, and I like that most of the time it works pretty well. That's all I really want out of it.

Just like the $5 monthly plan (300 searches/mo) but unlimited, and costs e.g. $2 more. no other differences.

nichu42 The Pro plan literally says: "Unlimited access to FastGPT and Universal Summarizer". I need you to understand I am morally opposed to funding LLM's. I don't want Kagi or anyone else to get the idea that I'm even remotely interested in that tech. If they bundle that in, I'm not going to pay for it. Am I being obtuse? Yes, but I am being consistent.

justneedausername Both fastGPT and Summarizer are free to use for anyone, with (IIRC) some rate limits in place. Having a paid account removes those rate limits. Summarizer and fastGPT therefore not paid services that you’re funding, rather their unlimited versions are just intended to be a little perk for subscribers.

A service that you can pay to get better access to is a paid service, it just has a free tier. We don't call youtube premium free just because it has an ad supported option.

I wouldn't mind a plan without ai for the same price, but with the promise "your money does not go to ai development"

I'm interested in Kagi and have enjoyed my trial, but I find myself stuck. The Individual plan doesn't offer enough searches - I blew through my 100 in 4 days - but the Pro plan is too expensive. I have absolutely zero interest in the AI tools, I just want better search, so I wish there was a tier that focuses purely on Search (either a high limit or unlimited), but doesn't include AI or Assistant access, for a price lower than the current Professional tier.

Kagi has made the AI features optional and opt-in for the most part. If you used the trial 100 searches in 4 days, you would definitely find tremendous value in the extremely fairly priced (IMO) $10 tier while not using any of the features you're not interested in.

(the price didn't increase because of AI btw, think it's important to mention that. The price stayed the same. I personally was already paying for professional last year before any ai features were added to it)

I'm a huge fan of Kagi for ad-less and tracker-less search but I don't really care for all the AI stuff. I'm not gonna use Kagi assistant or all the related features and I understand that all of that stuff is probable expensive to run.

I would be interested in a new Kagi Pro tier that is cheaper to pay and guaranteed without AI features.

Users that already have a sub to other services like Gemini or ChatGPT, or users that are not interested in the AI stuff / don't trust AI.

Chiming in to agree that a search-only plan to accommodate more searchers would turn me into a subscriber. It could be there are more of us than Kagi might imagine, so doing this might help educate them about their target audience? Or not, it seems like everyone is on the AI assistant and AI search bandwagon. If i'm interested in getting an accurate answer, in context, and properly sourced/cited, the last place i would go would be to an AI assistant or AI-generated answer. Even then, i would have to not care about the thievery behind these AI responses, and the immense energy consumed by AI.

Not everyone uses or wants to use AI, so for some, having these features enabled/available are just useless extras. Add an option to have all the AI features/hidden disabled if we don't want them.

DuckDuckGo actually does this with their "no AI" version, and I think this is a great idea.

Not everyone wants AI, so having something like https://noai.kagi.com would be nice. It should have all AI features disabled with no way to (accidentally) activate them.

Maybe this "no AI" version of Kagi could even be a few dollars cheaper 🙂

If this is about search: the only ai in search is Quick Answer (which unlike google and ddg) don't actually auto trigger, the user always has to either press the button or add a question mark at the end of their query.
So there is no way to accidentally use ai in Kagi

Well this is true, new users coming to Kagi aren’t aware of this. I can understand people seeing the price and thinking that they’re paying for something that they’re not going to use, if they don’t plan to use the AI features.

If they didn't increase prices when they introduced AI features they where simply overcharging before.

Lets not pretend here, It costs Kagi a considerable amount of developer hours (and thus money) to implement and maintain these features, and queries to LLM APIs is in general much more expensive than search APIs (excluding free tiers).

What I'm saying is that users that don't utilise the AI features are being overcharged/subsidising the AI users, which people don't like nor might be comfortable with, if for example they are opposed to funding AI.
