Allow Per-Use Over Per-Time Payment

I don't think I search enough to justify a $10/month subscription. I would prefer to prepay for a block of searches/results and re-up when I use that up

mwmiller The problem with this is that it can not be an option.

If we have $10/mo unlimited and pay per use what can end up happening is that everyone who is spending less than $10/mo is on pay per use and everyone spending more is on $10/mo -> we go bankrupt.

So we would need to completely change our business model to pay per use only. I personally like this idea (as it is fair and deals effectively with abuse) but it also presents a barrier to adoption. Only 10% of users told us they would prefer this option. Many users communicated that they would have anxiety to search knowing that every search costs them money which defeats the purpose of always avaialble search.

Looking forward to further thoughts.

I'm a huge fan of this idea if it is a viable option.
Personally I wouldn't use it as I'm quite sure I would end up spending thousands with how much I end up searching, lol - but I think for people who perhaps only do a few searches a day, sometimes none at all this would be extremely good.

I also think it somewhat ties in to one of my suggestions with showing the searches remaining/cost of searches. The suggestion was targeted towards the free tier members, though I think it could easily fit this purpose also.

Understood. I recognise that I am a bit of an outlier with my search habits. I appreciate the privacy and quality of results, but I just don't search that much.

I'll probably end up with a subscription, but I'll consider it an act of good will rather than a responsible purchase.

mwmiller Thanks for understanding. At least that is an option you have, but if we start making irresponsible business decisions it would remove all choices for everyone.
