Deduplicate redditmedia.com and reddit.com results

Some searches I come across redditmedia.com showing up in addition to reddit.com. Typically the results between these two are in fact unique posts, but it makes sense from a UI/UX standpoint for any redditmedia.com results to simply be reddit.com. Example search here.

It seems this results from certain upstreams having to index redditmedia rather than reddit.com.

EDIT: Literally seconds after posting this I remembered redirects exist 😅 , might still be looking into deduping these results to give a better default experience?

I think we should have the option to choose to stick with the redditmedia results maybe? Bit of an edge case but it's not caught by Reddit's VPN checks which is rather convenient if you're well, always behind a VPN.

Touko Oh now that's interesting and actually very useful as a friend and I get caught by that all the time. I think these results should still be deduped as most users don't need to bypass the VPN check. One can write a redirect rule if it's that common of a problem. Might be worth looking into giving redirects a link to the original page?

Touko Edge cases like that seem best served by custom redirect rules, especially since that behavior can't be relied upon in the future. Thanks for the tip though, it prevents me from needing to reproxy reddit.

The following will redirect all reddit posts to redditmedia:
^https?://(.+\.)?reddit(media)?.com/(r/.*)|https://www.redditmedia.com/$3
