TL;DR
I'd like a way to search for "Products" the same way I can search for "Videos" or "Images".
Long version
I became a happy Kagi customer with two motivations:
- Screw google for "ethical & political misalignment"
- As a human being and a tech worker I need good quality results fast
I discovered a whole lot of other reasons to stay but those are the main ones.
This is why I have a strong will to avoid using any Alphabet products asap, and I do understand that might not be everyone's priority & the priority they want to give Kagi.
Everything being said, one of the main reasons I find myself pulling up google is to find product prices & marketplaces.
My usual need is to get a sense of the price of a specific product or to find a marketplace where I can complete a purchase. In that sense, the way google has implemented its search function is pretty good for my needs.
Here is a quick list of my must haves & wishes in no specific order:
- Must haves
- Product availability metadata
- Average price of the provided results
- Marketplace metadata
- Name, country, currency
- Price range filter
- Compatible with the "location" setting of the overall search
- I dont think this needs mentioning but: no affiliate link embeddings
- In my dreams
- Price evolution tracking
- Marketplace reputation metadata
- Custom Marketplace ranking
- Assistant powered search
- Auto currency conversion
- Marketplace specific searches
Product search might be less relevant to Kagi's investment in information neutrality but it remains an important part of the way we act as citizens and it sickens me to give this data to google 🙂
EDIT: Thanks @KamilKurde for pointing out this issue as a duplicate of "Shopping Search Widget does not work". The exact nature of the request being quite different, from my understanding, I think it's still useful to track this issue separately. If moderation disagrees I obviously have no issues reposting / reworking my feedback as an answer !
