Universal Summarizer on YouTube pages currently only reads the video transcript—which sometimes is unavailable.
Goals:
- Having the Summarizer read through the comments and present a summary the community's general reaction to the video.
- Highlight notable criticisms, corrections, or misinformation flagged by commenters.
- For corporate or brand announcements, distill the key takeaways while filtering out marketing jargon.
Use Cases & Examples
Community Consensus – Quickly gauge whether the overall reaction to a video is positive, negative, or mixed. This would restore confidence in instructional videos—since YouTube does not officially display the like/dislike ratio.
Fact-Checking & Corrections – Highlight misinformation, mistakes, or corrections pointed out by commenters.
Stripping Corporate Marketing Buzz – Extract the key points from corporate announcements without promotional fluff.
Efficient Research & Learning – For instructional or academic videos, the Summarizer could highlight valuable insights shared in the comments (e.g., alternative explanations, useful timestamps, expert clarifications).
This feature could be an optional toggle within the Summarizer settings, allowing users to choose whether they want only the transcript, only comments, or both combined.
If feasible, timestamps or comment links could be included in the summary for users to jump directly to key discussions.
