When performing an image search on Kagi for “MX Ergo S,” which refers to a Logitech trackball mouse, the search results include images of Mr. Trump. These results are unrelated and diminish the accuracy of the image search. Given that “MX Ergo S” is a specific product name, the results should primarily display images of the Logitech device rather than unrelated figures.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Navigate to Kagi Search.
  2. Enter “MX Ergo S” in the search bar.
  3. Switch to image search results.
  4. Observe that some images in the results are unrelated to the Logitech MX Ergo S mouse, including pictures of Mr. Trump.

Actual Behavior:

The search results include unrelated images, including those of Mr. Trump, which do not correspond to the search query.

Additional Information:

  • This issue occurs across different devices and locations:
    • Mobile Safari on iPhone (using LTE in Germany).
    • Orion on macOS (work computer located in Lithuania).
    • Orion on personal device (Germany)
  • Other search engines (e.g., Google, DuckDuckGo) do not produce similar irrelevant results for the same query.

Expected Behavior:

The search results should primarily consist of images of the Logitech MX Ergo S trackball mouse and relevant product-related visuals. Unrelated images, such as those of public figures, should not appear.

It appears these are from an upstream provider -- we're investigating the cause and checking if these irrelevant results are more widespread. We'll follow up in thread

Hi @Luis, any update on this topic? I'm still getting images or Mr. Trump when I search for that term.

Hey, we've resolved this issue. Please let us know if you encounter any other problems.

I work in an architectural field. I often crawl through many images on Kagi, and I've been experiencing random incidents of seeing Trump on the results list. The queries are often unrelated to Trump. As a small example (Try it live).

Try looking for "standard mounting height for receptacle" in both Kagi and also Google (as a control).

Kagi, at around row 21, has an image of Trump.

Google on the other hand, has no occurrences. Same with DDG.

This is psychologically distressing to me. I do not want, at least not during work and focus time, random interjections of this particular kind of mind virus. I'd rather not have to manually filter it out (using logical operator -), just like I don't have to manually yell "NOT A PREDATOR" or other insanity when I visit my kids school. I shouldn't have to take pre-emptive measures for what seems like a problem with the algorithm.

As you can tell, I am obviously not in a good place whenever these intrusive images enter what I consider "focus time", especially with recent events.

          Here are some further examples.

I'd also be keen on understanding why this happens.

The desired functionality is for the image results to match closer to DDG or even google. To be relevant. Is there like some Trump weighted bias that I'm not aware of.

            Hey there folks,
I can't explain it, but when I search for images, the results page often starts spamming Trump images (and an occasional other news-related image here and there) once you scroll down. Why is that? And more importantly, can this be fixed?

Here are some examples of the search queries I ran that returned unexpected Trump imagery:

            • Turn latch between two doors
            • New Zealand White Island
            • How to make a reed for a loom

I would love not to be ambushed by these images when searching for completely unrelated things. 🙂

            Thanks!

I expected to see images directly related to my search queries.

Merged 1 post from Trump turning up in unrelated image searches.

              Hi all,

This should be resolved now, sorry about that.
It is due to a bug in an upstream provider - we're working with them to fix it.
