Summarizer sometimes show an AuthenticationRequired error

I'm also experiencing this on FF for Mac with the extension version: 0.7.4

I had this error today trying to access Summarizer with Firefox on a Mac. It had worked as expected earlier and normal Kagi search still worked.

Disabling the browser extension Firefox Search made this error go away.

There were errors in the browser console talking Kagi "menu-something" (can't remember exactly) already being created. Unfortunately, I didn't screenshot that before the error went away.

After disabling the plugin and retrying, I had a successful request that replaced the Authorization header with Sec-Fetch-User: ?1 (otherwise identical)

I had this happen after using the !sum bang with no parameter after. This redirected to https://kagi.com/summarizer/index.html?, which gives the error. Removing the question mark from the URL works correctly.
EDIT: Now I can't access Summarizer from any URL, get the following page:

This is indeed happening again (and randomly). But once the error shows up, it seems to not go away for many hours?

This is also happening in incognito mode (w/ the extension turned on).

Hi all,

We are currently not too sure why this is happening again, and are unable to reproduce it.
We had this issue a long while back, and it was due to the extension sending an Authorization header to summarizer (and due to the way it's hosted, it doesn't like this).

After finding that out, we released an update (0.7.3.1, in November) to change this so it no longer happens (we don't use Authorization at all anymore).
But from the info provided, it seems like your extensions are still sending the Authorization header for some reason.

For anyone having issues, if you re-install the extension fully (completely remove it and install it again) - does the issue persist?

We'll continue to investigate and see if we can figure out what is going on.

pixel It was working fine until suddenly it stopped working. I then deleted the addon, reinstalled it, and refreshed the page showing an error and it's showing the same error:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. <Error> <Code>AuthenticationRequired</Code> <Message>Authentication required.</Message> </Error>

Waiting ₂ minutes and refreshing the page again, and it now properly summarises it.

I did that a few weeks ago (removing and installing again). Today I got the AuthenticationRequired error again, in a private window (trying to summarize a YouTube video). I then tried it in a normal window and it worked without an error.

This really is making Kagi look bad. One of the most important features just completely unusable.

ray Agreed that it sucks but complaining about it doesn’t help it get fixed, if you’re having issues did you do what @pixel said to troubleshoot?

In my case it seems I mostly (only?) have problems in a private window. When I try to summarize the same YouTube video in a normal window, it seems to work every time. And sometimes it also works in a private window, like today with the first YouTube video. But the second and third YouTube video in the same private window didn't work, and I got the AuthenticationRequired error again.

Right now, it doesn't work in either a private or a normal window. If I go to kagi.com I can search just fine, if I go to https://kagi.com/summarizer/index.html (even after searching in the same tab) I get the AuthenticationRequired error. It's very weird.

I uninstalled the plugin, used Kagi a bit then reinstalled it. I haven't had this issue since.
