This is how Safari extensions work, and I believe we have an explaination when you tap the extension app icon (I may be wrong).
Not all iOS extensions behave this way nor is it some kind of requirement. For example the 1Password extension works great both inside and outside of Safari, 1Blocker has extensive in-app settings as do other ad blockers.
In any case can you clarify a little bit the path you took and what would you expect to happen.
Assume I’m a new user to Kagi. I don’t know what the words private session link mean and I don’t know how to set this up until I randomly reach this particular webpage on the whole internet or spend my life clicking every button in every app I use.
Okay, sorry for the attitude. I just find it annoying to have to spell this out.
So imagine I’m new to Kagi. I get the plugin installed and it starts redirecting my Google searches.
Now imagine I use Safari and use Private Browsing.
And the Kagi extension is not set up.
What happens is a login screen for Kagi appears. So I go okay, and login that first time. Then my searches work.
Next day I go to use Private browsing and I get prompted to login.
This time I decide to turn off Kagi because it is broken in private browsing, it keeps asking me to sign in.
The feature I am suggesting is that the browser extension, like ad block or 1Password should modify the login screen to ask you to configure the extension to work in private browsing when presented with a Kagi login screen. It could be prefaced with the text: Private Browsing? Set up your Kagi extension by following these simple steps.
I suggest doing that by opening a new bug report/feature request.
I don’t work for you, sorry. 🙂 I should add that I would continue paying $25 a month despite the condescending attitude shown here, but my Kagi search doesn’t work well in Canada for showing me products from Canadian retailers - it keeps showing .com results instead of .ca and feels overly tuned to the US or world markets instead of localized to each region. So despite it all, I might have to go back to Google next month, as I’ve already started using the Google app on my phone as an alternative. It’s not actually much better, but it doesn’t seem like an easy thing to fix either.
