My understanding is that the current character input limit is 40,000, and that the current file upload limit is 16MB. I'd first like to clarify whether the character limit applies to uploaded files too (i.e. one uploads a 20-page paper with 100k characters that is only 1MB large). Second, I'd like to request an error message to be implemented that prevents queries from being answered ordinarily when the character limit is exceeded.
Without an error message, a user unaware of the character limit (I used to be this user!) would be unable to harness the full capabilities of the Assistant as the data fed to the LLM would not all be used. This can pose problems when asking for summaries, editing texts, etc. Alongside an error message that the full message or uploaded file cannot be utilised/read, perhaps a follow-up option that shows at what point the text/file is cut off would be useful, alongside the option to simply stop the chat.
