This feature would be the introduction of "Recency" filter for podcast search results, not unlike the existing filter for web/image/news search results.
First off, apologies if this was already suggested somewhere. I had a search around and didn't spot anything although it would be nice if there were sub-filters under "Search Quality" for different tabs. I did come across this post which seemed roughly in the ball park although I don't think that user followed up in the end.
For podcasts, the way in which they're best consumed depends on the podcast itself.
When it comes to podcasts with guests, depending on the host's style, the content inside can be fairly timeless. This would be in comparison to say; a daily news podcast.
Depending on the frequency of guest appearances, standard filtering can be used currently and recency ordering may not make a huge difference when there is less than 1 page of results for a specific enough query.
On the other hand, there are a number of podcasts where the hosts and/or guests do discuss timely information. In these cases, the ability to order by time is pretty useful and perhaps even the intended way to consume that podcast.
At present, there are a few things you can do in the absence of a date filter.
For a podcast that publishes frequently, you could do a text search for a specific date but that does require you to know what the latest release date is.
If you know the exact name of the podcast (in this case, I'm querying for "Insight with Chris Van Vliet"), doing an exact query for the podcast name appears to return results that are strongly time ordered but not exactly.
Scrolling slightly down, we can see that the time ordering falls apart a little bit but still pretty good.
If we're trying to discover a podcast, rather than query for one we already know the precise name of it, that strong time ordering quickly falls apart and probably holds true if you're trying to query for specific guests across multiple unrelated podcasts as well.
The strongest use case that I have personally, is that some podcast feeds may have sub-shows or segments within a main feed that is less commonly published.
Being able to query for these subfeeds with Kagi is great but getting to the latest (or oldest) episodes isn't really feasible without the ability to enforce time ordering. I should mention at the time of writing that pagination doesn't appear to exist for podcasts anyway but that would be another request.
For structured feeds, it's possible to find specific episodes by decrementing/incrementing numbers but for older (particularly first episodes) in a feed, these "anchors" may not exist meaning that the only way to reach them is to either do a specific query for the episode title (which requires having some other index ie; episode listings in a podcast player) or to just get lucky with search results.
Hopefully that gives enough insight into what sorts of things are useful with time ordered podcast feeds!
