Hi! I am a big fan of Kagi and have upgraded to the Ultimate subscription because I find the Assistant incredibly valuable. The search functionality is outstanding, and I've completely stopped using Google, although I must admit that Kagi Maps still falls short of Google Maps.
However, there's one major issue I need to address: the lack of design consistency across Kagi's products. It's crucial for all Kagi products to include a unified "Apps" button, similar to Google's, to streamline navigation. Additionally, the Kagi logo should be consistently placed across all platforms, and switching between different Kagi products should be seamless.
The most problematic area (for me) is the Kagi Assistant's layout, which is cluttered and difficult to navigate, especially when compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Claude. Users should have the option to widen the chat area for a better experience. While the functionality of Kagi's products is impressive, the design needs significant improvement. Currently, Kagi Search is the only product with a flawless design.
Recognizing these design shortcomings, I plan to create some prototypes on Figma to visually communicate my suggestions for improvement and illustrate what I believe Kagi's design should aspire to be.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my feedback, for listening to the community, and for the great work you're doing with Kagi.
In proposing a unified design for Kagi's suite of products, I envision several specific ways users would benefit from this feature, enhancing their overall experience:
Unified Navigation with an "Apps" Button:
- Usage: Users can quickly access different Kagi products from a single interface. By clicking the "Apps" button, a dropdown or side panel would appear, listing all available Kagi services such as Search, Maps, and Assistant.
- Examples: Google implements this effectively with its "Google Apps" grid icon, allowing seamless transitions between Gmail, Drive, Maps, etc.
Consistent Logo Placement:
- Usage: A consistent logo placement across all products ensures brand recognition and provides a familiar anchor point for users navigating between services.
- Examples: Apple's ecosystem maintains a consistent design language and logo placement across its apps, reinforcing brand identity and aiding user orientation.
Seamless Product Switching:
- Usage: Users can switch between products without needing to re-enter information or lose context. For instance, a user conducting research can seamlessly move from Kagi Search to Kagi Assistant to further explore findings.
- Examples: Microsoft Office Suite allows users to switch between Word, Excel, and PowerPoint while maintaining document continuity.
Improved Layout for Kagi Assistant:
- Usage: Users would benefit from a cleaner, more readable interface in Kagi Assistant. The option to widen the chat area would enhance readability and usability, especially for users who engage in extensive conversations or data analysis.
- Examples: OpenAI's ChatGPT offers a clean, minimalist interface that prioritizes readability and user engagement.
Integration with Existing Features:
- Usage: The proposed design improvements would integrate with existing features by maintaining functional consistency while enhancing visual coherence. For example, search results in Kagi Search could be directly linked to actions in Kagi Assistant.
- Examples: Adobe Creative Cloud provides a consistent interface across its applications, allowing tools and features to be easily accessible and integrated.
By implementing a single base layout, Kagi can offer a cohesive user experience that simplifies navigation, enhances usability, and strengthens brand identity. These changes would not only improve individual product interfaces but also create a more interconnected and efficient ecosystem for users.
