I changed the name of this discussion as this would also solve the problem and be a better solution.
Wikidata is a great source for finding social media links, defiantly when the wiki widget already uses wikipedia, so it's easily linked.
The current method of extracting social media links from the search results could still be used as a fallback if wikidata doesn't have any social media links or the wikidata endpoint is down.
One note about integrating this: make sure to not use any links that have a deprecated rank on wikidata.
This is especially critical because of many people quitting Twitter for example. A good example is Technology Connections:
