Allowing users to disable custom bangs would provide a cleaner, clearer experience for the user. For example, if I want to use !r for a different custom bang, I can do that without issue. However, typing “!” In the search bar still populates with the original bang “Reddit” which is confusing for the end user.
Additionally, it would just make for a much cleaner interface to be able too quickly select from the 4 or 5 bangs I actually use rather then the 20+ that I will never use.
Lastly, as far as I can tell there isn’t even a full list of all default bangs anywhere in the docs. Thus, it makes it impossible to fully utilize them if no one knows they exist. Adding an option to disable them would also provide a way to explore what already exists.
I imagine a user opening the settings menu, navigating to a “default bangs” section and seeing a list of every default bang that is available along with it’s url path and a toggle switch to enable or disable it. If disabled, it would no longer function and would not auto-populate the search bar when “!” is typed.
