Today Kagi went down for planned maintenance, while the downtime was right on schedule and quickly resolved, I believe the experience during this downtime could be improved.
As Kagi is the default search engine in my browsers, it was slightly more annoying that I would have liked to perform a search that didn't go to Kagi for once. I appreciate the redirect to the status as it made it very clear what was going on, however my immediate though was "Ok cool, I'll just use DDG for a bit" and retyped my query with the DDG bang, only to be redirected to the status page again. I tried again thinking that I had just mistyped it but realised that everything was going to the status page.
I'd like to see bangs still function during planned maintenance, this would provide a quick and easy escape hatch while requiring minimal user effort. I'd be happy with the standard, non-personalised bangs, however if possible, making personalised ones available as well would be great.
For non-bang users/queries I think a page that noted Kagi was down for maintenance with an overview of applicable details (link to status page), and an option to redirect this query, or all queries for a limited amount of time to another search engine (Google, Bing, DDG, etc.) would be a nice quality of life feature.
