There was a recent change to the desktop search results whereby clicking the search box after a search has been performed causes the search box to move to the top of the page and the rest of the contents to blank out. I think there's a big UX issue here.

Typically, if I need to refine my search I double-click on a word in the original search phrase to change it. That no longer works, however. The first click causes the search box to move and also drops down a set of search results. The second click is registered as clicking on one of those results from the dropdown selector. So, I keep inadvertently clicking through to a search result I don't want. Then I have to go back to the previous page, single click the search box, wait for it to move, then go highlight the word I want to change.

As a secondary issue, I don't like the previous search results clearing out. I often use a phrase on one of the results to help refine my new search. With the results having cleared away I now have to memorize what was on the page. Since this is a new workflow, I typically have to search once, go to refine, fail, then go back to the original search term, memorize what I need, then try to refine the search.

I'd like to return to the previous search UI. I found it was considerably more usable and it better matches the experience with other search engines. Specifically, I don't want the search box to move on me and I don't want the current search results to disappear when I click inside the search box again.

nirvdrum Hi! Could you let me know which browser you're using? A video would be very helpful. Unfortunately I've never experienced the issue you're describing.

I'm sorry, I missed this request for more details. Your note about not being able to reproduce pushed me to spend some more time debugging. I think I worked it out.

I do web development and use the developer tools to change the User Agent string and simulate mobile browser sizes. I apparently forgot to reset one so I've been using Kagi's mobile version. It renders full screen so it didn't occur to me that I wasn't on the desktop version of the site. It's the mobile variant that will clear search results and move the search box when clicked on.

Apologies for the noise and thank you for taking the time to respond.
