Keyboard doesn't auto popup when opening search from widget android

At the moment, upon tapping the search bar in the Kagi widget for Android, it'll launch the app with the search field selected but will not trigger the keyboard.

By triggering the keyboard, you'll save the need to click the search field again once the app has opened.

With search bar widget installed on my home screen. Often when I tap it, the on screen keyboard does not activate. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, Android 14 / OneUI 6.1.

In case it's not clear in the video, I have to tap the search bar a second time to make the keyboard appear.

Clicking the search widget doesn't open the keyboard unless the app is already running

When using Kagi app on Android and its home screen widget, when I click it to start a search, the search box is focused, but they keyboard doesn't open.
When I use Brave Browser search widget (which I set the default search engine to be Kagi), when I click the widget, the keyboard auto opens, which is a lot more convenient.
I recorded a little video to show what I mean, if it isn't clear: (First I use Brave search widget and then Kagi search widget)

When clicking on the widget the keyboard should pop up automatically

@Luis I just encountered this bug again! It seems that something in the most recent changes undid the fix that was applied 😕

Sadly, I too am also encountering this. I'm using a Pixel 8, running Android 15. I'm also using a custom keyboard - SwiftKey.

I can reproduce. Unfortunately there's been a regression, our apologies for the inconvenience. Our next app release will fix this (either later this week or early next week)

I just wanted to add that the same is true for the 'assistant' shortcut in the android app. Hopefully the fix covers both use cases.

This is still an issue for me. Any updates here? Not just with widget, but when opening search app, same behavior of no active keyboard and needing to tap into search, which is time consuming and unnecessary.
