PLEASE ADD A FREE KAGI THAT HAS ADS, SO YOU STILL MAKE MONEY.

I am a student who would love to use Kagi but can't afford the price. The lens feature and blocking of some sites is great and would help me heaps. But I can't afford the higher tier prices because I search so much.

someone who can't afford premium searches like normal, but is ok with an occasional ad.

I would cancel my subscription immediately, if they did this.
Why not use any of the free search engines?

Another problem with this would be that ads only make search engines profitable if they are tailored to the user's search query, which would destroy Kagi's privacy promise

As a PhD student I certainly would appreciate a student discount! But frankly the Ultimate tier has saved me so much time through access to multiple top-tier LLMs, along with a web search that actually gives relevant results, I'm planning to demo it to some of my research colleagues. If it saves me even an hour of work a month, it pays for itself.

Nashwan I've already thought about the student discount. I'm currently studying for a Bachelor's degree myself and would of course welcome this, but I'm quite unsure whether it would work as others would then have to pay for the immense costs of the AI requests. And let's be honest, students in particular probably use the Assistant excessively. That's why I think the costs are prohibitive.

I understand some of the positions people have taken but I feel it’s a very privileged position. There’s people in marginalised communities and third world countries, should they not have access to Kagi?
I think a free ad tier that works with Open Source and ethical ads could be beneficial

Spreado12 it’s antithetical to Kagi’s mission. There are tons of ā€œethicalā€ free search engines out there for people.

Spreado12 What makes you believe that people in the third world don't have money? Have you ever visited?

If you're talking about people who are completely broke, then why would anybody want to advertise to those people? No matter where in the world they are?

If you want to help people who are not in a "very privileged position", then your best solution is to pay for Kagi subscription for them. But I suspect that people who are broke have very different and more urgent needs than a premium search engine.
