Search query: 0.4 m to inches
Kagi quick answer: = 0.01574803 Inch
Search query: 0.4m to inches
Kagi quick answer: = 15.7480315 Inch
I expected the query in proper SI notation -- the first query -- to give an accurate answer instead of being off by a factor of 1000.
Only the incorrectly formatted query works.
The first is proper SI notation ("0.4 m") but Kagi gives a wrong answer.
The second, in incorrect notation ("0.4m"), gives a correct answer.
There is supposed to be a space between numerals and unit symbol in SI, except for angles (degrees, and minutes and seconds of a degree, all have the symbol with no space).
See e.g. NIST's guide to SI
7.2 Space between numerical value and unit symbol
In the expression for the value of a quantity, the unit symbol is placed after the numerical value and a space is left between the numerical value and the unit symbol.
The only exceptions to this rule are for the unit symbols for degree, minute, and second for plane angle: °, ′, and ″, respectively (see Table 6), in which case no space is left between the numerical value and the unit symbol.
