I just signed up to the professional tier and to test the academic search lens, looked for a paper I know well. The search performed well and the summarization was impressive. However, the chat feature "ask questions about this page" afterwards was unable to retrieve who the lead author of the paper was, even with more guidance and multiple attempts. It seemed to give up, just spitting out some mangled html at me. If the chat assistant is unable to retrieve such basic information, it might be worth adding a warning about hallucinations.
Perhaps one of the chat assistants in the Unlimited tier would perform better? I hope so.
I expected the AI chat to be able to recognise the listed authors in an academic paper. I would also then expect to ask follow-up questions about institutional affiliations and funding sources (if declared).
