Once you run out of your montly budget you get the membership upsell prompt on every search.

We should show that dialog every 50 searches and then automatically redirect to a selected external search

I'm that close to disable Kagi from my browser default search ... after that there is a good chance I'll forget / won't bother reinstating it and I'll probably cancel the subscription. My tolerance for bad UX is very low, especially when I'm paying for that product (I know, I know, I'm also a supporter and I like to be part of it but ... I also have a job / other stuff to care about during the day)

Also: the login to this forum seem to be broken (at least on brave) with discord (captcha never loading) and twitter

When the user is within his/her included searches there is no point of reminders, when the limit has been reached there are no „extra“ searches or what do you mean by „every 50 searches“?

To my mind, the wording is transparent and the options to initiate a search elsewhere are consumer-friendly (most services wouldn’t even link to competitors).

sorry I have been not clear, I'm not arguing about stopping the service after the limit has been reached.
I'm arguing about how invasive is the above popup: do we really want the user to perform one additional click every time they want to do the search just for skipping the above dialog? To me that is very bad UX.
That's why I was suggesting to rate limit that dialog (not the search results, that obviously have to be provided from an external - non-kagi - search service)

If we think that user will simply pay / up their membership every time they reach the threshold, then I'm out

Are you suggesting that we cap the number of times the popup is displayed before automatically redirecting search queries to the chosen external search engine? i.e. until the subscription renews and users have more searches available

My interpretation is that we should show this popup the first search and every 50 searches there after.
So at 1, 50, 100, 150 ect..

Or maybe give the user an option to silence this popup for a given X (50,100,150 ect..) searches or when it exceeds X additional costs.

Although i personally never encountered this popup myself. I can see why it;s quite annoying to see it on every invidual search.

of course it's not that straightforward because kagi needs to know which external service to redirect to / the user has to tell kagi somehow

You could change your kagi setting to use a google bang automatically.
In your browser, change your kagi search from
https://kagi.com/search?q=%s
to
https://kagi.com/search?q=!g+%s
It will automatically search Google. It's just a workaround suggestion, obviously you would have to change it back when your subscription renewed.

Still, a bit of a workaround, I would like Kagi - a paid service - to have a non-broken UX.
