Login with QR code no longer working

I go to Kagi.com on a work computer and when I scan the QR code on my phone and then tap Continue it usually logs me in.

Instead I get a “403 Forbidden” error message.

Any idea what might be causing this? I tried demoing this cool way to login to a friend who is thinking about signing up and it was frustrating for it to not work.

It to log me in like it as always done before.

SK different error but when I try to login by typing my username and password directly on the desktop computer, I get this error: “429 Too Many Requests”

EDIT: Must have been a temporary service error because after a few minutes username and password allowed me to log in.

Yeah, having trouble at all the computers at work, including the ones I have never used before. Used to work up until a couple days ago. I refer to the 403 Forbidden error. I have not the 429 error again.

I will try tonight at my home computer in a web browser not logged into Kagi.

I'm also having the 403 Forbidden error on safari on iOS 17.5.1. Clearing cookies works for a while, then eventually I get kicked back to the login page and it 403s again.

Just noticed that disabling iCloud private relay made it work. But I’ve never had a problem with it enabled before, and have zero problems on desktop where it is also enabled

Hi @nullable, Yes, the private relay doesn't work well with the GCP Cloud Load Balancer we're using for Kagi. It's filtered by GCP internal rules that we can't control from the customer side.

@SK, we just made a change relevant to the 429 error while logging in, and I guess it's fixed already. However, let me know if you face any issues then.

LuanPhan I have had private relay disabled and am still getting the same 403 Forbidden errors. Interestingly, I tried it on a graphene phone where I am already logged into Kagi and scanning the QR code did work with that. It seems that something changed with 17.5.1 to break QR logins.

@nullable are you clearing the cookies on the computer you are trying to sign on to or the phone that is already logged in?

SK I only had to clear cookies in safari on iOS. Haven't had any issues on MacOS. I also get the 403 error when using password login on the phone too.

@LuanPhan Never had this problem before despite using private relay for months, so I'd be surprised if it's the issue. It seems to still happen even with it disabled, though.

LuanPhan I realize now that my issue was due to the bug in the safari extension on iOS 17.5. Updating the extension fixed it. Sorry for the confusion

@nullable this fixed the QR code not working for me too. Looks like whatever error was in the safari extension got fixed. Thanks you can close my bug report.
