Safari extension broken on iOS 17.5

Running 2.2.4 on iOS 17.5.1. It almost completely fixes my issues. With the old version, it was a 50/50 chance if I’d get Ecosia or Kagi. (Reloading a couple of times would usually “wake up” Kagi.) Since upgrading to 2.2.4, I’ve only seen Ecosia once. I was on cellular and getting particularly bad signal so the web was painfully slow. One search gave results in Ecosia. Shortly after, it worked as normal.

dino Unfortunately my settings already are exactly like the ones you posted. kagi.com is and has been enabled. The behaviour is still erratic.
I also did try disabling all other extensions, but it didn't help

Still goddamn broken, always asking for login no matter what, or redirecting to the last search.

The core idea behind Kagi is solid but your software engineering is some of the worst I have seen in a decade and believe me, I have seen shoddy software. You don't test shit. You just churn out crap.

Igak Did you give the extension access to both the default search engine website and kagi.com? I had issues before too, when I only gave the extension access to my default search engine, but after giving it access to kagi.com, it worked great!

Igak Please judge the quality of engineering on our own products: Kagi Search and Orion Browser. We should not be held responsible for things that are out of control.

For the record, order of events:

Apple limits the scope of search engines in Safari
We spend significant resources building Safari Extension
Apple launches iOS 17.5 that breaks it (along with many other extensions, read here https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/750330)
We scramble to fix this and release a patch. We test it for several days before releasing it. (there is balance how many days to do that because people on 17..5 have a broken extension). See this thread.
After wider release we learn it is broken for some people like you. It is incredibly hard to debug this so we are continuing to guess-fix this and rely on reports from our users (thank you)

I understand you are frustrated, and so are we. We want to be in the business of creating world's best search, not patching an extension.

Things you can do:

Send feedback to Apple asking them to include Kagi

(yes, we built an entire browser because how bad this problem is)

If you are using the extension, make sure you have the latest version from the App Store, and make sure that you allowed 'kagi.com in extension settings.

Safari extension installed properly, already follow all the necessary steps to setup, even put private session link to the extension. But when I search, often it redirects to login, despite I already logged in. When I proceed to login, it returns forbidden

It redirects my search properly with correct session

The exact same thing also started happening to me today. No dice reinstalling the app or rebooting the phone. iOS 17.4.

I’m also experiencing this. It works sometimes but most of my search attempts lead to the log in page.

@dirathea @byteduck @dieggywegz Did you guys give the extension access to both the default search engine website AND kagi.com? I also had this issue before, when I only gave the extension access to the default search engine website, but it started working great after giving it access to kagi.com.

Double check kagi.com is allowed in extension settings.

The latest update (2.2.4) broke redirections for me as well. Searches just go straight to the underlying search engine. (For the record, I'm not upset at you, Apple has made this complicated, I just wanna help get it fixed.)

I'm on iOS 16.7.7, the extension is enabled and both kagi.com and my search engine are set to "allow". I even re-installed the extension and restarted my phone, no luck. This is 100% reproducible for me, so I'm happy to help debug/test however I can.

I’m sorry to report that the Kagi Safari extension beta/fix is so disappointing. I loved it so much I bought a year-long subscription for me and my wife. Then, 17.5 broke it. So, I found the Kagi TestFlight extension. Followed the directions to the letter. Every single search now redirects to a Kagi sign-in screen. I have to login to Kagi each and every search and then retype my search because it didn’t pass through. Please fix this.
