A lot of the content on the web today are videos, and a lot of those videos are on YouTube. I understand that using video to text (Whisper) isn't sustainable but for a lot of videos already have subtitles.
It would be useful to be able to find content based on those too, ideally with the timestamp of when in the video something was mentioned.
Note: This doesn't have to be (only) YouTube, it could be any video service
I see a few different use cases:
- I want to find information about X but can't what I'm after on the normal web, it's likely mentioned in a video but without the video being focused on X (and therefore not part of the video description etc)
- I know/suspect they'll talk about X in this video, but I don't know where in the video and it's a long video
- I know/suspect they talk about X in at least one of the videos on this channel, but I don't know which one
If we suspect subtitles might give a lot of bad results, it could potentially be triggered only with some keyword like yt-channel:id-goes-here yt-subs:"my search goes here"
, or maybe some visual checkbox or lens for it.
Results could show the match text context, the video, the timestamp, and a link to the YouTube video at that timestamp.
