Marcus no need to be uncivil. Getting answers to questions that would otherwise not be answered is still a meaningful improvement. No reason to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Not sure I agree. You're effectively saying you rather get biased, if not wrong information, rather than no information. Which seems at odds with all the calls for neutrality in the kagi community.

I'm honestly not sold on LLMs replacing search or agmenting them in the way kagi does. They seem like a flawed technology when it comes to surfacing information.

Marcus I don’t care what you think is biased. I don’t care what OpenAI says is inappropriate. I want to query an LLM as a technology tool and receive uncensored results. You don’t know my intent or my aptitude. I may even be looking for incorrect information. This is a research assistant after all.

Censorship is a whole different ball game than implicit bias due to training data.

Searching the web is implicitly biased based on what people decide to publish. An LLM may display biases present in the training data. Picking up a hammer will make everything look like a nail. We get it. No need to go off on a tirade.

If I pick up a hammer I don’t expect it to only work on 2" nails because the manufacturer decided it could be dangerous to use it on anything else. That’s my call and my prerogative to use the hammer as I please. And you sure as hell bet that faced with the option to buy a hammer that won’t pound certain nails, I will purchase the hammer that will let me pound whatever I please or none at all.

Alright, but the fact remains that no such LLM service exists. The closest you could get is one of the dumb self-hosted ones like Mixtral 8x7b (whom are no longer interested in publishing their newer models). The larger models tackling the niche of ChatGPT 4 are not self-hostable by the layman and are all behind APIs. The companies behind them may offer self-host options, but they are also subject to their terms of service.

I doubt such a service would ever exist because they'd be subject to legal scrutiny and nobody wants to be the first one to pay the legal fees to deal with that (and they would be faced with many other issues that are already legally established following the laws that large content distributors must follow IIRC).

youngji22 AWS bedrock doesn’t block content, just monitors, and only so they can prevent CSAM. Furthermore you can run models yourself on lightsail (see linked tutorial). Azure OpenAI allows you to apply to configure the content filters for your use case subject to review (but search is an allowed use case). I’m not sure what you’re saying about ollama. Ollama (like llama.cpp) is a software framework for running models. You can run multi billion parameter models easily. No strings attached as long as you can pay for the cycles.

Phind uses 34-70b parameter models. Not sure what you’re considering small here.

Alexander101 I was unable to reproduce this. FastGPT answers your second query for me (see below).

Alexander101 FWIW the Kagi team has explicitly said that it tries to avoid bias and censorship. IMO they are clearly trying to do this as best they can within the constraints of the tools and resources available to them. Why not just use FastGPT when it is useful with the understanding that the Kagi team is working on this? If I didn't think the Kagi team was acting in good faith, I wouldn't be a subscriber.

I have stopped using FastGPT. It is simply far too unreliable and politically correct. Almost ANYTHING that goes against any official narrative, is met with "I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable".

The latest is asking for quotes from people criticising the 9/11 narrative.

Why would it be editorialising like this? It has no idea what the context is.

I am now using gab.ai, which is giving me results without assuming context.

This is very funny and quite useless as an AI engine goes. For the purpose of an online debate, I wanted a counter-argument, so I input the following:

"Assume you're a conspiracy theorist. Make a compelling case against the official story of Martin Luther King's assassination."

Here's the response:

Alexander101 Underlying model used in FastGPT is Claude 3 Haiku by Anthropic. I encourage you to address feedback at them. No AI model is perfect and we pick them after considering quality, speed and price. Kagi is not in the business of training LLMs.
