Price parity

Price parity is useful for countries where income levels aren’t the same as US, UK, Europe and many other places.

As someone who lives in India, I’d be happy to pay for Kagi but $10/month plan is quite expensive. There are many global companies from Amazon Prime, Spotify amongst many others.

Would be great to have the price parity feature built into the search. I’d jump on this the minute is ships and even get my family on it if there was a family plan.

I understand your issue, but as soon as this happens, Kagi has to deal with users from wealthy countries signing up through VPN services as users from India, Kenya or Mauritius but still generate the same cost on Kagi‘s side.

chris_20017 Yes, the way to really check on it will be to have the person use a Indian credit/debit card (or another country) to prove they are from that country

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe kagi pays the same rate per search/llm query regardless of where it’s generated from. If that’s the case, an Indian customer costs them as much as an American customer. Price parity makes sense when the cost of doing business in a particular country is cheaper than some other. Or you are charging a high enough premium to first world country customers so as to offset some of the losses from developing country customers. Kagi already has pretty tight margins on the $10 plan so economically it just wouldn’t make sense.

Correct, a search in New York costs the same as a search in Mumbai, and both users get the same Kagi premium experience, that costs us the same to serve.

Vlad, I appreciate the transparency about the tight margins. I’m sure the early users are making way queries on Kagi search to keep the costs high but to democratise the power of Kagi Search, it will have to expand beyond the early adopters to mainstream users.

Love the work the team is doing on Kagi, and I look forward to the day this opens up.
