Allow typing only year in date filter

Right now if I open the date field and just put 2018 in the "from date" year box and hit enter then the page refreshes with no filter applied.

So if you only type a year in the "from date" area then it should be Jan 1.
If you put a year in the "to date" area then it should be Dec 31.

(Also it would be nice if there was some transparency with how you date things. Publication date vs crawl date, etc.)

Bump -- being able to more easily filter by year would really be great

I agree, adding "after:2018" to a search is really something I expected to work.

I'd also like a bang to search only in the last year.
