Searching for "kagi bangs" returns an off topic first result

This behavior was encountered when searching for information about kagi bangs (!). I am all for giving the people what they want, but the first result is an outlier.

Omitting the first result would fix this issue for me.

jphofmann This is because you have wikipedia pinned (as indicated by the icon), this result is probably really low and in unfortunate turn of events in query disambiguation, and pinning wikipedia makes it surface all the way to the top as a 'first' result.

perhaps chaging wikipedia from pinned to raise would achieve most of the effect without the unwanted effects like this one.

I guess that is really a risk when pinning any site. You will get a result even if the quality of the match is not very strong. I had not considered how even elevating a sites natural placement in order of results could mean surfacing less relevant information.

I like to have the option, even if you have to accept the side effects. I am getting a lot of value by pushing sites rankings down, with the benefits of being ignorant of any downsides of doing so.

I was not suggesting a solution. It seems to be working as intended. I left Wikipedia pinned, as now, it seems obvious that this presents pinned results first independent of the quality of the match.

After some playing around. It appears that "pinning" just reorders the results on the page. For instance, if there is a Wikipedia match that would appear on a subsequent page it is not returned without searching for those later results. Some criteria could be added beyond "the result appears on the page" to determine if it is pin worthy, but then I would just be here filing bugs about how a site appears on the results page but it is not pinned.
