When switching to Kagi maps without WebGL available the user simply gets a black screen with no indication of why (short of going into console). While most devices have WebGL now, some people have it disabled to limit fingerprinting.
Allowing for a fallback, or at the very least a notice of why it won't load, should provide a smoother experience for those affected.
If a fallback is provided then users can use browsers/extensions that block WebGL such as LibreWolf for more privacy, while still being able to enjoy Kagi over Google/Bing/Apple maps.
It would appear that all of the other map providers allow for a non-WebGL fallback.
I see it mentioned that it is indeed possible with mapbox here. I'm not sure how this would affect development between bifurcated mapping APIs but possibly worth looking into.
